The Halifax County Board of Education will meet on Monday, May 1st, 2017 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office Administrative Building located on 9525 Hwy 301 South, Halifax, North Carolina, pursuant to NC General Statute 143.318 (a) (1) for the purpose of preventing disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential pursuant to state or federal law, specifically, information regarding employees which is protected by NC General Statute 115C-319 and 115-321.

Jiona Mills~Crawley Scholarship Recipient 2017
NORTHWEST HALIFAX HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS HONOR
LITTLETON, NC: Jiona Mills, a senior at Northwest Halifax High School, receives the Crawley Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jiona is the daughter of Jeffrey and Johnell Mills. Ms. Mills will be graduating this year from Northwest Halifax High School as Class Valedictorian.
After high school, Jiona will enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She plans to major in Health Sciences and pursue a career of becoming a Public Health Administrator.
Throughout high school, Jiona has been involved in various activities such as the marching band and she holds a leadership position in many areas. Ms. Mills currently serves as Senior Class President and Track Captain. Jiona is also involved in her church and with Community Youth for Christ. Jiona has accomplished all this while maintaining a GPA over a 4.0.
This summer, Jiona will participate in the Summer Ventures program as well in Governors school. Northwest Halifax High School Principal Mr. Mark Barfield said, “Jiona has always remained focused on her goals and she is definitely a model student.” When asked Jiona how she felt, she stated, “I feel very honored and relieved that my education has been taken care of. I am very thankful and all my hard work has paid off.”
Halifax County Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Cunningham says, “I am very proud of Jiona. Jiona exemplifies hard work, determination, and success. She makes Halifax County Schools proud.”
About Crawley Memorial Scholarship Fund: The scholarship is renewable each of the succeeding three years of the recipient’s undergraduate education. The person must maintain a satisfactory level of academic and personal achievement.
Halifax County Schools would like to proudly announce the recipient for the district Student of the Month for March 2017. The Student of the Month is Regene Barnes, a 12th grade student at Southeast Halifax High School. She is the daughter of Mary Ann Barnes of Enfield, NC. Regene was chosen as the district Student of the Month because she is a very focused and dedicated student. Ms. Barnes is a member of AIG, AVID, and Beta Club. Regene is very humble and has a great rapport with all of her classmates.
Regene is considered a mathematical wizard who serves as a Math tutor. She will continue with her love of mathematics as she becomes a Wolfpack in the fall and attend North Carolina State University. Principal Ann Davis, says, “Regene will be successful in whatever she sets her mind to do. We are very proud of Regene. She exemplifies Trojan Pride.”
Halifax County Schools would like to proudly announce the recipient for the District Employee of the month for March 2017.
The Employee of the Month is Mrs. Teresa Boyd, School Nurse for Southeast Halifax High School, Inborden Elementary, Scotland Neck Elementary School, and Enfield Middle School. Mrs. Boyd was chosen as Employee of the Month because of her dedication to her job. She always has a positive attitude and does not have a problem taking initiative.
Nurse Boyd agree to take on the role of Teen Pep Coordinator for Southeast Halifax High School. At the other schools, she conducts health screens, administers medications, and consistently contacts parents on issues concerning the safety and health of all of the students.
Mrs. Teresa Boyd truly is the epitome of one deserving the recognition for Employee of the Month for Halifax County Schools.
Halifax County Schools would like to proudly announce the recipient for the district Student of the Month for February 2017. The Student of the Month is Matthew Pope, a Kindergarten Student at Inborden Elementary School. He is the son of Willie Pope and Harriet Wilson of Enfield, NC. Matthew was chosen as the district Student of the Month because he tries very hard. He has a speech impediment, but that does not define him.
Matthew always pushes himself to success. He is already at the End-of-Year Benchmark for Reading 3D. Matthew said that he and his peers will do their work so they can go to the First grade. Good job Matthew! Keep up the Good Work!
The Employee of the Month for February 2017 is
Linda Smith, a First Grade Teacher at Inborden Elementary School. Mrs. Linda Smith was chosen as Employee of the Month because she has a beautiful spirit about education and always greets everyone with a smile. Principal Chastity Kinsey says, “Mrs. Smith is great to work with and is doing a wonderful job. Mrs. Smith is very excited and eager to work with students.
Mrs. Smith said, “It is an honor to be a part of Inborden Elementary and the Halifax County Schools system. I love what I do and have a passion for teaching children.”
She truly is the epitome of one deserving of the recognition for Employee of the Month.

The Student of the Month is Keyana Smith, a Kindergarten Student at Scotland Neck Elementary School. She is the daughter of Curtis and Patrina Shields of Scotland Neck, NC. Keyana was chosen as the district Student of the Month because she loves to read and her teachers say that she is a joy to have in the classroom. Keyana is always willing to help her fellow classmates.
Keyana said, “I love school and I am glad that I am Student of the Month.” She said that students should pay attention and class. Congratulations Keyana for doing a great job!!

The Employee of the Month is Ms. April Allen, Cyber Facilitator for Northwest Halifax High School. Ms. Allen was chosen as Employee of the Month because of her commitment to the scholars of the Halifax County Schools district. Ms. Allen is always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that students are prepared for class, various projects, and extra-curricular activities. She works hard to ensure that reports and data for the school is completed in a timely manner. Ms. Allen has an excellent rapport with scholars, staff, and administrators. Principal of Northwest Halifax High School, Mr. Mark Barfield, says, “Ms. Allen is a pleasure to have as an employee and it is great to have her as a member of his team.” Ms. April Allen truly is the epitome of one deserving the recognition for Employee of the Month for Halifax County Schools.
